PostSubject: Fighting 101   Fighting 101 EmptyTue Apr 02, 2013 5:32 am

So the idea behind this thread is to put as much advise, information, and helpful links about being a better eRep soldier, and a better eRep player in general, all in one place. Primarily aimed at players just starting out, but

Please post what tips and tricks you have that can help new MU members just joining.

From the beginning.

The overall theme for starting out in eRep is to think of the long-term benefits to your character. Don't give in to the temptation of gratification for today at the cost of tomorrow.

Save your gold. You want your gold (and as much in USD as you can save) for investing in your character's development. Using gold to buy weapons, or upgrade things right away, gives some instant gratification but will hold you back later when you really need it.

The goal as a new player is to level up as slowly as possible. Players essentially have a set limited number of fights in Division 1, where all the young players fight against each other. When you reach Level 25 you get bumped up to Division 2 where there are lots of heavy hitters with really high strength levels and military ranks. If you level up quickly your strength will be puny for Division 2 and you won't be able to defeat anybody.

As an example, 1,200 strength in D1 ranks you top-50 in the eUS. Top-50 in D2 in the eUS requires 7,500 strength.

The better alternative is to prioritize increasing your strength and save your fights for when your strength is higher. Since you essentially get a certain number of fights before reaching D2, you want to use them when you are the most effective fighter. When your strength is higher you need fewer fights to defeat an opponent. So instead of fighting a ton right at the start of your eLife when it could take 10 fights to defeat every enemy, save your fights for later when you can defeat enemies every 2-3 fights. You will defeat more enemies in total, use far fewer weapons and food, and have opportunities to earn more Achievements and the gold that comes from winning them.

The one way to get more fights in your D1 career is to not do other things that gain XP. You want to train every day to increase your strength. You want to work at a salary-paying job because you need money, and you want to get the reward for completing your daily tasks. Make sure to work and train every day, your daily tasks reward gives you +5 strength every 5th day, you will earn Hard Worker medals worth 5 gold for 30 days straight of work, and Super Soldier medals for every 250 strength you earn.

But do not work on your own land or for your own companies. Buy your food from the marketplace using the salary you earn from your job. If you are out of USD request food through The Activity's supply program or from one of the government's programs that provide free food for new players. But if you are saving your fights and prioritizing strength gains you should only need food to recover 20-30 energy a day, which is affordable on a normal salary.

But if you do need food and have no USD, request it. Do not use your gold for food. And do not use your gold for training, only use your free training grounds as a new player. You want to ...

Use your gold to upgrade you free training grounds. Every bit of gold should be invested this way until you have a Q4 training grounds.

The benefits of investing in training grounds:
-You gain strength much quicker.
-You earn Super Soldier medals much more frequently, making your free training grounds a very profitable investment.
-Training grounds are a safe investment. If you ever need gold really badly you can downgrade them for 50% of your gold back.

The one caveat on investing in training grounds: always wait for a game discount on upgrades to invest in your training grounds. Discounts on upgrades come around about once a month, and typically offer 45% off the cost of upgrades. Waiting for a discount will slow your strength growth in the short term but will leave you with more gold to get the big, expensive upgrades sooner.

Once your free training grounds are upgraded, it's your choice whether to work on your other training grounds. If you do, always work on the least expensive training grounds first, until it is Q4, then move on to the next.

Your 0.19G training ground will be profitable (barely) only at Q4. If you want to upgrade it, I recommend not using it until it is fully upgraded, save up enough gold to jump from Q0 all the way to Q4. If you don't mind burning lots of gold you can use it regularly and upgrade it in stages.

Your 0.89G and 1.79G training grounds will always lose you money at any Q level. If you want to burn gold for super strength upgrade and use them all. But you'll be spending a ton of gold. Definitely save them for last.

When to fight.

So now you've been saving up your fights, leveling very slowly, and investing your gold in your free training grounds when there is an in-game discount on upgrades.

So when do you actually fight?

1) When the eUS needs defending. Always be a patriot first. When we are under attack, The Activity has weapon and food supplies available upon request to any members who can fight. Always fight with the best weapons possible to do the most good in the fewest fights.

2) When you can defeat 25 enemies in a day easily to complete the MU's Daily Orders. The Activity has weapon and food supplies available upon request for fighters who can complete the Daily Orders regularly. But it should not be a struggle to complete the Daily Orders, if you have to buy weapons on your own to get to 25 kills then your strength isn't high enough yet.

There's complicated math where you can figure out how much damage you would do at your strength that can tell you when your strength is high enough to easily defeat 25 enemies a day. But the easy way to tell is to try it every so often. The Activity has weapon and food supplies available upon request to members who want to gauge how their strength is coming along. And it's boring to be in a Military Unit and never fight, even one with a good community like The Activity.

The reason you want to complete the Daily Orders when you can is you want the bazooka parts that are the reward for doing the Daily Orders. Bazookas are great when you assemble them. 1-hit kills, 10000 damage. You want lots of them. But don't assemble your bazookas right away and save your bazookas for ...

3) Fighting for Battle Hero medals. D1 is the best time to earn BH medals, and the 2 gold that comes with them, by dealing the most influence for your side in D1 of any battle. If you're just a little crafty in choosing your battles, and have some bazookas and other weapons stockpiled, you can win BH medals with only a few fights or win multiple BH medals in one day.

Guide to winning Battle Hero medals

The Activity has weapon and food supplies available upon request for fighters going for BH medals.

And as always, save your BH gold to invest in upgrading your training centers when there is a discount.
